Method 12

WoW!  What a lot to explore!  So many avenues to access information.  As an information specialist, I have my work cut out for me.  I've learned so much.  It is only the tip of the iceberg and I'm committed to catching up and truly becoming a Librarian 2.0!

Of just a moment ago as I drove to the post office to pick up the library mail I heard an announcement that Apple is introducing the "iCloud".  A way to backup and store all media and data with having to sync up or have the iTunes application on your computer/electronic device.  I came back in and found this following article comparing Apple iCloud to Google.

Now to reflect and evaluate.....

  • What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
The blog was is my favorite discovery so far.  I'm reminded of a scene from the movie "Hackers".  At the end of the movie Matthew Lillard is broadcast live internationally via media by hacker to expose the villian and rescue the hero and heroine.  He stops and acknowledges how great it feels to have that kind of power.  His goofy awestruck expression is a reflection of how I feel when I post a blog.  Why did I never do this before!?!??
  • How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
At this point my lifelong learning goals are open ended.  I knew there was a lot to learn.  This training program has opened my eyes to the necessity of getting on the ball and getting that knowledge under my belt.  Here I am almost 2 1/2 years behind already.  I've got to catch up and keep up.  With training like this though:  a) I'll have fun; b) I get hands on experience with a support system and no fear of failure; c) I can absorb the information at my pace.

  • Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
I was not prepared to learn anything about posting videos/photos or using Facebook that would truly have the potential for application in our little rural Texas library.  I did take away a lot of ideas:  future events to offer patrons; technology that I need to explore and become proficient at using and that the whole "cloud" thing can be fun, educational, safe, private and so so so much more.

  • What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
I loved the format.  At first I was a bit spastic about the whole thing, but when I calmed down and actually followed the instructions I had fun.
  • And last but not least…
  • If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you again chose to participate?
YES! YES! YES!
